Space Surveillance and Tracking

Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and sustainability of space activities.

As the number of active satellites increases, so does the risk of collisions between operational spacecraft and debris. SST helps detect, track, and catalog space debris, predict their orbits, and generate collision avoidance alerts. It plays a crucial role in safeguarding our space infrastructure and preventing accidents in the crowded orbital environment .

Passive tracking

Andøya Space Sub-Orbital is currently developing a low-cost passive optical tracking system in collaboration with the Norwegian Mapping Authority. The project has been funded by the Norwegian Space Agency.

Automated cameras stationed at Andøya and Ny-Ålesund will cooperate to photograph the night skies. Then advanced software will analyse all data to detect, track and catalog observations.
