This October, Andøya Space will host the Space Hackathon 25, which invites students, developers, entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts to collaborate on digital solutions that harness satellite data to address real-world challenges in the Arctic.
Satellites in orbit collect treasure troves of Earth observation data, which can be satellite imagery, weather and climate data, positioning data and much more.
“All this data can be combined into useful applications to improve everyday life and industry in the Arctic,” says Jøran Grande, president of Andøya Space Education. “We are only limited by our imaginations, which is why KPB in close collaboration with Andøya Space and other partners is organizing a hackathon. “
A hackathon is a creative event where people come together to solve problems, the focus is on creating new ideas, or building something innovative.
“Space Hackathon 25 is a strategic initiative to foster a sustainable space-based ecosystem in the north, encouraging talent to ‘move north’ and engage with space technology in meaningful ways,” Grande explains.
Participants will design and prototype software applications or digital tools that utilize space-based data to improve aspects of life in the Arctic.
“Teams are expected to present not only technical solutions but also basic business plans that demonstrate how their innovations could be implemented or commercialized,” says Grande.
Andøya Space, known for its cutting-edge spaceport and research facilities, provides an ideal setting for this forward-looking event. By combining space technology with Arctic needs, the hackathon seeks to bridge the gap between innovation and impact.
